Life is full of frustration. The car breaks down; the house always seems to need another fix-up job; we get sick or injured and a look in the mirror reminds us we're not getting any younger.
Even in this age of high technology and medical advances, we have to admit that things fall apart. No matter how many inventions and new products we come up with to make life easier, things will continue as they always have, to deteriorate. And we will continue to face the inevitable process of decay, which Paul described as 'the bondage of corruption' (Romans 8:21). We simply cannot avoid the 'sufferings of this present time' which are a part of, living in this fallen world. (Romans 8:18). Yet there is hope! We as Christians can look forward eagerly to the adoption, the redemption of our body. (Romans 8:23). Paul called that grand expectation 'the glory which shall be revealed in us' (Romans 8:18).
Dear friends, so the next time another one of your modern conveniences lets you down, making you aware that life isn't getting any easier, shift your attention away from this deteriorating world. If you are trusting in Christ, remind yourself that God will someday make us and our world eternally perfect. Then all our frustrations will end.
"Each day we see a slow decay
As this old, dying world gives way
Yet as things surely fall apart
Our hope in Christ renews the heart"
