Discipleship
The term "disciple" (Greek = "mathetes") means "learner", while the term "apostle" (Greek = "apostolos") means "to be sent". The twelve disciples of Jesus Christ were first learners and then they were sent.
Every Christian is called to be a disciple of Christ. If a person chooses to come after Jesus Christ and be a true disciple, he or she must:
1. Deny himself
2. Take up his cross
3. Follow Jesus...( Mark 8:34 )
Beloved, it's not enough to be saved, or to be called to serve Christ, or to be trained. When all of that is done, we must go out into all the world and make disciples ( Mathew 28:19-20 ). We have been made disciples in order to make disciples. We are to carry on the same discipling process that our Lord used with the twelve disciples.
Are you being discipled - learning with a view to be sent out? Are you discipling - training someone with a view to sending them to reach others? Discipleship and apostleship go together: first, an individual is to follow; then, they are to leave and carry the message. Our Lord is calling us to work with Him in gathering some of the lost, mauled, exhausted, prostrate, shepherdless sheep - before the reapers come to cut them down and throw them into the fire of judgement.
Friends, if you are encouraged by the Holy Spirit with a call to discipleship, please do join us in this ministry of discipleship by letting us know using the form below. We will help you to be built up as a true disciple of Jesus Christ.
